Solo winter backpacking in the Scottish Highlands

My name is Keith Lambeth and as long as I can remember I've loved being outdoors, from the South Downs of my youth to my current home on Dartmoor in the south west UK and many places in between.

Since 1992 I have lived on Dartmoor and fallen in love with it's unique blend of open wildness and history, ancient and modern. For the last 22 years I have been an active member of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team. In addition to close on 30 years  experience I hold the national Mountain Training Hill and Moorland Leaders certificate and the  South West Mountain and Moorland walking and camping leaders certificate, an HSE appointed persons first aid certificate and a Mountain Rescue England and Wales Casualty Care Certificate.

My interests on the moor include its history and archaeology from ancient times to the last century, the animals and plants that make their home here and the challenges that Dartmoor can offer those of us that spend time here.

Dartmoor in Winter
Whether you want a guide to take you to places you wouldn't go alone or an instructor to help you hone your skills for your own adventures, My experience, passion and knowledge is at your disposal. My groups are kept small to maximise the opportunity to attend to each participant and to limit the impact on the moor and local area.

My aim is to be inclusive and I welcome enquiries from people who may have difficulties accessing the moor for health (or any other) reasons. In general terms my walks, classes and expeditions are for people over 18, (over 16 with a parent/guardian) but if a family group wished to undertake a trip a bespoke package could be arranged.

Maybe I'll see you up the road a way?

  1. My mate Andy treated me to a days walking on Dartmoor with Keith. He was great company with an intimate knowledge of the history and wildlife on the moor. No way we would have walked such a challenging route and seen where an otter had used an old rabbit hole and avoided ending up in the Grimpen mire!
